Data and Knowledge Management
3.1 Importance of High-Quality Data
IT applications need data that is complete, consistent, and concise. Managing data is difficult due to its quick growth, scattered locations, and multiple sources, which can lead to outdated or corrupted data.
Data Governance
Data governance is a formal approach to ensure data quality, security, and compliance across an business or organization.
3.2 Benefits of Databases
Databases solve many data storage problems by reducing redundancy, overcoming isolation, and ensuring consistency. They also provide high security, maintain data integrity, and allow independent data management.
3.3 Database Management Systems (DBMS)
A DBMS adds, deletes, accesses, modifies, and analyzes data. It organizes data into tables, uses SQL for queries, describes structure with data dictionaries, and reduces redundancy through normalization.
